Navan Boxing Club

History

There is a long history of boxing in Navan and at times there were more than one club in the town. Sometime around 1990 the last club closed down and for a number of years there was no boxing in the town.

The present club was founded in 1999 as a result of a request from young people in the town that a boxing club be formed. In the intervening years the club has won a number of Provincial and National titles. The club is now well established and is proud of it record and look forward to a bright future

Season

Navan Boxing season runs from the first Tuesday in September to the end of April the following year.  

Training
Training has resumed for the 2009/10 season in the CYWS hall every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm from 12th August 2009, new members welcome.

Membership

Membership is open to all both male and female who are 10 years of age.

Membership fee is as set by the committee at the annual general meeting each year.

Membership for 2008/09 is as follows:
 
                    Under 17 years                                  €10
                    Over 17 years                                    
€50                            Senior non competition boxers                               €300

Weekly Subscription for 2007/08 is as follows: 

                    Under 17 years        €5
                    Over 17 years          €10  

The weekly subscription is the same if the member attends on both nights or on only one night.

Affiliations

Navan Boxing Club is affiliated to Irish Amateur boxing association (IABA) and to Meath County Boxing Board.

Objectives

  • To promote the amateur sport of boxing as promulgated by the Irish Amateur Boxing association (IABA).

  • To instill discipline and the art of self defence and encourage physical fitness in its members.  

Constitution and Rules

Navan boxing club is governed by it constitution and rules as drawn up by the members and adopted at the EGM on the 6th November 2002.

An annual general meeting is held between the 1st September and 31st October each year.

Forthcoming Events

Christmas break from Thursday 17th December 2009 untill Tuesday 5th January 2010.

Training has resumed in the CYWS Fairgreen Navan Co Meath at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursday, new members welcome.

National Championships:

Christopher Blaney won the National Under 21 title, this is Christopher's 7th National title.

Christopher Blaney won his sixth national title on Saturday the 15th March 2009 when he defeated Thomas Keely of the Glen Club of Cork on a score of 7-6 in a very close contest at the national stadium Dublin for the Youth 2 championship at 70kgs. Christopher maintained his find record when he defeated Gary Byrne of wexford in the semi finals and thus won the right to fight in the finals. Christopher is now looking forward to taking part in the Junior championships later in the year.
